Cookie policy

Summary

Today, WakeMode sets no cookies of its own. It uses your browser's local storage to remember tool settings on your device. Google Analytics and Google's consent message are planned for launch. Their cookies load only as your consent allows.

Local storage we use now

Local storage works like a cookie but stays in your browser and is never sent with page requests. Every WakeMode key starts with wm:, and none of them hold personal information.

Key Purpose How long it lasts
wm:theme Remembers light, dark or automatic appearance Until you clear site data
wm:keepawake:last Remembers your last Keep Screen Awake duration Until you clear site data
wm:clock:prefs Remembers Fullscreen Clock options Until you clear site data
wm:pomodoro:settings Remembers Pomodoro lengths and alerts Until you clear site data
wm:worldclock:zones Remembers your World Clock cities and 12/24-hour choice Until you clear site data
wm:pwa:install-dismissed Remembers that you dismissed the install message Until you clear site data

If you install WakeMode or use it offline, your browser also keeps a copy of the site's files and pages you've opened, so they work without a connection. This copy holds no personal information and is replaced when the site updates.

These are needed for the tools to remember your choices, so they don't require consent.

The homepage includes videos embedded from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube's own privacy policy applies when you play them.

Cookies planned for launch (to be added at launch)

  • Google Analytics. Measures which pages and tools are used. Analytics cookies (such as _ga and _ga_<ID>) are set only if you accept analytics. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics doesn't load at all until you do.
  • Google AdSense. Shows and measures ads that keep WakeMode free. Advertising cookies follow your consent choice and local law.
  • Google's consent message. Stores your consent choice so you aren't asked on every visit. Until you choose, Google Consent Mode tells Google tags that analytics and advertising storage are denied in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland.

We'll list the exact cookie names and lifetimes here when these services go live.

Changing your choices

  • Use the "Privacy settings" link in the footer to change consent once the consent message is live.
  • Clear cookies and site data for wakemode.net in your browser settings to remove everything at once.
  • Most browsers also let you block third-party cookies.
